Conwy: So, there’s been a bit of a hiccup with the water supply in Conwy. A burst water main means some homes might be without water until Sunday. This all kicked off yesterday afternoon at the Bryn Cowlyd Water Treatment Works in Dolgarrog.

Areas like Llandudno, Colwyn Bay, and Llanrwst are feeling the pinch too. Over 20 schools have had to close, and even some council offices and popular spots like Conwy Castle are shut down for now.

Dwr Cymru, the water company, mentioned that fixing the issue is taking longer than they thought. The repair is tricky because the burst main is buried deep under the riverbed, and the river’s water level is making things even harder.

They’ve set up a coffer dam to redirect the river and are working on a trench to get to the damaged pipe safely. Once they fix it, it could still take up to 48 hours for everyone to get their water back, though some might see it return sooner.

The Bryn Cowlyd Water Treatment Works is a big deal, supplying water all the way from Conwy Valley to Llandudno. They’ve got to be careful while refilling the system to avoid any further issues like low pressure or discolored water.

In the meantime, they’re prioritizing bottled water for vulnerable customers, which includes about 5,000 people in the affected areas. They’re even sourcing bottled water from as far away as Scotland due to a shortage in the UK.

They’ve promised to sort out compensation for those who’ve lost their water supply, including businesses. They’re doing their best to get everything back to normal and have apologized for the hassle.
