Southwark: So, there was this wild scene at a council meeting the other day. Councillors were really going at it, and it got pretty childish. Cllr Ian Wingfield, the Labour Chair, told Cllr Victor Chamberlain from the Lib Dems to ‘shut up’ during a discussion. Can you believe that?

It all kicked off when Wingfield accused Chamberlain of acting like an activist instead of focusing on the meeting. He was really frustrated and even threatened to report him to the legal officer if he didn’t stop interrupting. Chamberlain, on the other hand, was just trying to ask questions about some serious issues, like housing charges and major works projects.

Things got heated when Chamberlain brought up a report about the council’s housing department. Wingfield kept cutting him off, saying they’d get to that later. But Chamberlain insisted it was a fair question, and that’s when the bickering really started.

After a bit of back and forth, Wingfield said he was done with the disrespect and was going to report Chamberlain for his behavior. It was a real mess! Chamberlain later said that the way he was treated was unprofessional and made it hard for the opposition to hold the council accountable.

In the end, Southwark Council said they hadn’t heard of any formal complaints about the councillors’ conduct. It’s just another day in local politics, I guess!
