Los Angeles: So, it looks like nearly 150 firefighters from Washington are heading down to Southern California to help out with those wildfires. It’s pretty intense down there, and they’re stepping up to lend a hand.
The Washington Emergency Management Division is sending a bunch of resources, including 45 engines and 11 trucks. That’s a serious commitment! On Wednesday, crews from all over, from Snohomish County to the Canadian border, jumped into action.
One of the Battalion Chiefs, Justyn Shevlin, mentioned how quickly everyone got organized. Once the call for help went out, it was all hands on deck. They formed two strike teams with firefighters from different counties, which is pretty cool teamwork.
They made their first pit stop in Salem, Oregon, before heading to Los Angeles. Shevlin said everyone going down is trained for wildland firefighting, which is a bit different from what they usually do in Washington.
These guys are ready for the unique challenges that come with wildfires in Southern California. It’s not just about putting out fires; they’ll be helping relieve tired firefighters, extinguishing flames, and protecting homes.
Shevlin also reassured everyone back home that their absence won’t affect local response times. They’ve got plenty of firefighters still on duty, so Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue will keep things running smoothly.
It’s great to see these departments coming together to help out. Some of the fire departments sending crews include Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue, Camano Island Fire & Rescue, and Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One. It’s a real community effort!
