This celebration is a highlight for Warrington, and it’s back in the town centre on February 8 and 9. It’s a great way to bring everyone together and celebrate the town’s growing cultural mix.
Cllr Tony Higgins from the council said, “The Lunar New Year celebrations are a wonderful opportunity for Warrington to come together and enjoy this cultural tradition.” He’s excited to see the event grow every year and is proud of the teamwork that makes it happen.
This year’s festivities will build on last year’s success, featuring a mix of traditional and modern performances. Liverpool’s Hung Gar Kung Fu school will be there, showcasing their lion and dragon dance along with some high-energy martial arts.
On Saturday, February 8, the Warrington Museum and Art Gallery, along with the Central Library, will host a family activity day from 11 am to 2 pm. It’ll be a fun time with crafts, trails, and snacks in a chill atmosphere.
The celebration is a team effort, with Warrington Borough Council, Warrington BID, Golden Square Shopping Centre, and Warrington Market all pitching in. Amy Dawber from Warrington BID said, “Lunar New Year has become a key event in Warrington’s calendar, offering something for everyone and celebrating the town’s diversity.”
There will be artisan markets to explore on Sunday, February 9, from 11 am to 4 pm, stretching onto Bridge Street and Time Square. Visitors can join in on traditional arts and crafts workshops and enjoy a variety of street food.
