Birmingham: So, there was this serious incident involving a woman who ended up in the hospital after spending too much time in a sauna. She got heat stroke and it led to multi-organ failure. Yikes, right? The doctors at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital said she was in pretty bad shape and needed care for 12 days.

Apparently, she was in her early 70s and had a history of health issues like type 1 diabetes. She was found unconscious at her gym’s sauna after doing some stretching for about 45 minutes. When paramedics arrived, her body temperature was sky-high at 42C, and her blood pressure was super low.

They rushed her to the emergency room where they cooled her down with wet towels and a fan. Thankfully, her temperature went back to normal after a couple of hours, but she was still confused for a couple of days. It turns out she had some serious complications, including kidney and liver issues.

The doctors noted that this kind of heat stroke from sauna use is really rare, with fewer than 10 cases reported before, and some even resulted in death. After 26 days, she was back to her usual self, though still a bit tired.

She shared her experience, stressing how crucial it is to stay hydrated before hitting the sauna. She felt lucky to have recovered and was really grateful to the medical team for their help. It’s a real eye-opener about the dangers of saunas if you’re not careful!
