Sydney: Revellers planning to hit the beaches on Christmas Day are being warned to keep it cool. Last year, Bronte Beach was left a total mess after huge crowds partied hard.

Thousands of people showed up to celebrate, but they left behind broken glass, trash, and even human waste. It was such a disaster that locals called it the “worst ever” beach party.

Residents were really upset, with one saying it felt “worse than a third world country.” Another mentioned feeling unsafe and even thought about moving away from the beach.

Waverley Councillor Joshua Spicer reassured locals that the council is taking steps to prevent a repeat of last year’s chaos. They’re bringing in extra rangers, security, and police, plus more bins and cleaning crews.

He shared on Facebook that they’re also setting up crowd control pathways and temporary toilets to help manage the crowds. Locals are still a bit doubtful, though, with some saying the council won’t do much.

The council emphasized they won’t tolerate any anti-social behaviour and are committed to keeping the beaches enjoyable for everyone. They want to make sure everyone can relax and have a good time.

NSW Police are also stepping up their presence at Bondi, Tamarama, and Bronte Beaches due to the expected large crowds. They’re aware of a planned party at Bronte and are working with the organisers.

Police reminded everyone to stick to alcohol-free zones and not to swim or drive boats while drunk. They’ll be out in force on the roads and in the water to keep things safe.

Mayor Sue Heins mentioned that they could see up to 100,000 visitors at the Northern Beaches, depending on the weather. She noted that most beachgoers are well-behaved.

Heins also said they’ve got extra lifeguards on duty during the festive season to help keep everyone safe. She urged beachgoers to stay hydrated, swim carefully, and clean up after themselves.

Ultimately, the goal is for everyone to have a great time and return home safely after a fun day at the beach.
