London: So, it turns out that most disability benefit checks are happening remotely now. Can you believe it? Since the pandemic, face-to-face assessments have really dropped. We’re talking about just two percent of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claims being done in person recently.

And get this, the number of PIP claims tied to anxiety and depression is expected to hit 4.2 million by 2030. But with so few in-person assessments, some folks are worried about fraud. Jacob Rees-Mogg even chimed in, saying that without those face-to-face meetings, some people might take advantage of the system.

Meanwhile, Labour’s Rachel Reeves is pushing for stricter rules on proving disability when claiming PIP. It seems like the government is gearing up to make some changes. A spokesperson mentioned that all assessments, whether in-person or remote, are done professionally and are audited to keep things fair.

They also hinted at upcoming reforms in the health and disability benefits system, aiming to help those who can work find jobs while still supporting those who really need it. PIP payments can go up to £798.63 a month for those on the highest rate, so it’s a big deal for many.
