Rayleigh: So, there’s been a bit of a mess at a BP garage in Essex. Drivers have been warned about contaminated fuel causing their cars to break down.
This all kicked off last Monday when folks started having trouble with their vehicles after filling up at the London Road BP garage. It was chaos, with many cars just stopping on the road.
The situation got serious enough that the garage had to shut down for a bit. They managed to reopen the next day after figuring out which fuel pump was the problem.
BP is on it, though. They’ve launched an investigation to get to the bottom of this. A spokesperson mentioned they’ve already located the affected fuel tank.
They’re also advising anyone who’s worried to reach out to their careline for help. It’s a good idea to check in if you think you might be affected.
A local expert thinks the issue might be due to petrol mixing with water somehow. Lee Pretlove, who runs a fuel draining service, said he’s been super busy lately, helping out customers from that garage.
He mentioned that he’s dealt with around 40 drivers needing help, but he suspects the number could be much higher. One poor guy had five vans break down on the same day!
Imagine that! He couldn’t even get his vans to work, which must have been really frustrating for him. Plus, dealing with contaminated fuel can lead to some hefty repair bills for drivers.
