London: Avanti passengers are in for a rough ride this weekend. The train services are set to face major disruptions because of strike action happening every Sunday for the next four months.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) are planning walkouts on Sundays, starting January 12. This is all about a dispute over rest days. Avanti is advising folks to travel on other days if they can.

On strike days, there will be a reduced timetable, meaning fewer trains will be running during limited hours. So, if you do need to travel, expect crowded trains and longer wait times.

On January 12, for example, there will only be one train per hour from Euston to Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, and Preston. Plus, some areas like North Wales and Blackpool won’t have any services at all.

Trains will be running during limited hours, with the first train leaving Euston after 8 AM and the last one before 5 PM. So, if you’re planning to travel, make sure to check the schedule ahead of time.

Customers with tickets for January 12 can travel anytime from January 11 to January 14. If you booked before the strike was announced and don’t want to travel, you can get a full refund without any fees.

Kathryn O’Brien from Avanti expressed disappointment over the extended strike action, saying it disrupts customers’ plans. She urged travelers to consider alternative dates or claim refunds if needed.
