Perth: So, there was this guy swimming at Hillarys dog beach, right? He was having a good time until his splashing caught the eye of a few tiger sharks. Talk about a close call!
Some drone footage showed at least four sharks swimming around him. The guy had no idea what was happening until it was almost too late. Curtis Ramsay, who filmed it, said it was one of the closest encounters he’s seen.
He explained that splashing can really attract sharks. It’s like waving a big flag saying, “Hey, look at me!” Curtis has seen plenty of sharks in that area, but this time was different. The sharks were actually interested in the swimmer.
One big shark kept coming back for a closer look. Curtis was like, “Whoa, this isn’t normal.” Usually, sharks just swim by, but this one was circling back, which made him pretty nervous.
At first, the shark checked the swimmer out and then swam away. But every time the guy splashed again, the shark seemed to get more curious. Curtis said it was a bit unsettling to see how the shark reacted.
Experts say splashing can mimic the movements of injured prey, which is why sharks might get curious. They’re really good at sensing vibrations in the water, so erratic movements can definitely catch their attention.
Curtis reminded everyone to be careful when swimming in shark territory. He said if you’re in an area with a lot of sharks, it’s best to keep things calm and controlled. No throwing balls for the dog or splashing around with kids.
Even after seeing all those sharks, Curtis still loves swimming in the ocean. He just makes sure to keep an eye on the water and stay calm. It’s all about respecting the ocean and its creatures!
