Earlsfield: A new pocket park is on the horizon, thanks to a petition from local residents. The Swaffield Pocket Park will feature plants, benches, and play equipment.

The park will replace the old Brocklebank Nursery, which closed in 2020. Plans include a new path connecting two entrances, plus bird and bat boxes to support local wildlife.

Labour councillor Denise Paul brought the petition to the council last year, and it gathered 279 signatures. Residents wanted a playground for families to enjoy.

After consulting with the community, the council has set aside £400,000 for the project. They aim to create a space that boosts health and well-being for everyone nearby.

The park will have self-closing gates at both entrances and will protect existing mature trees. Plus, it will have surfaces designed for sustainable drainage.

The council’s grounds maintenance contractor will manage the park once it’s completed. A decision on the plans will be made soon.
