Village Toilets to Close After Community Campaign Falls Short
A Pembrokeshire village’s public toilets will shut down after residents reject funding options

Pembrokeshire: It’s a bummer, but the public toilets in Carew are closing soon. They’ve been a go-to spot for locals and visitors alike, but the community couldn’t rally enough support to keep them open.
In just three days, those toilets were used 484 times! That’s a lot of foot traffic. They’re popular with drivers, walkers, and folks enjoying the nearby playground and sports field.
There was some hope that the council would reconsider, especially with the busy summer months coming up. But when the community council asked residents about paying a bit more in taxes to keep the toilets open, most said no.
It’s a tough situation. The toilets sit right by the A4075, across from Carew Castle, and they’re super handy for everyone in the area. But with the council cuts, it looks like they’ll be shutting down for good on April 1, 2025.
Only about a quarter of the households in the village responded to the survey, and the majority didn’t want to chip in extra cash. Meanwhile, other villages like Moylgrove and Nevern managed to save their toilets thanks to community funding.
Carew Community Council shared the news on Facebook, expressing their disappointment. They really tried to find other funding options, but it just didn’t work out. They understand this will be an inconvenience for many and appreciate the community’s support.
