Sydney: A former rugby player, Connor Lind, has been sentenced to jail for engaging in sexual acts with a 14-year-old girl. He was found guilty of two counts of sexual intercourse and one count of intentionally touching her.

After the jury’s decision, he was sentenced but quickly released on bail as his lawyers plan to appeal. Lind, who was 19 at the time of the offenses, denied any wrongdoing, claiming he only kissed the girl and stopped when things got too heated.

The judge, however, pointed out that the jury didn’t buy his story. They emphasized that the girl was just a child, still in junior high, and Lind should have known better. The court heard that he had no prior criminal record, but his actions were serious enough to warrant jail time.

Lind’s sentencing has sparked a lot of anger in the community, leading to threats against him from vigilantes. The judge noted that while Lind’s behavior wasn’t deemed predatory, it was still unacceptable for an adult to engage with a minor.

He received a two-year sentence, with an 11-month non-parole period. Lind’s family was present in court, and after the sentence was handed down, he embraced them. His lawyer immediately sought bail pending the appeal, which the judge granted under strict conditions.
