Bury: The old Victorian cotton mill buildings are getting a makeover. Albion Mill and Albion House, which have been empty for a while, will soon be turned into flats.

Bracknell Properties Ltd is behind this project. They plan to convert the first three floors of the mill into 20 apartments. A previous plan for 42 flats was dropped due to concerns about noise and traffic.

Albion Mill is just a short walk from Bury town centre. The new plans include a communal entrance, a gym, and even a mail room on the ground floor. The upper floors will have more flats, while the ground floor will be used for storage.

These buildings have a rich history, dating back to the 1850s when they were used for cotton weaving. The area has seen changes over the years, with some mills cleared in the late 20th century.

The developers say they won’t change the building’s footprint. They just want to refurbish it for residential use. If all goes well, they’ll also rearrange the parking to fit 21 spaces for the new residents.

Bury planners will review the proposal soon, and it’s exciting to see how this historic site will evolve.
