Victoria: It looks like Victoria might be gearing up to be a hot spot in the upcoming federal election. Newspoll’s latest analysis suggests that the political scene is shifting, and it could be a real battleground.
Remember how Labor scored big in Western Australia during the last election? That win helped Prime Minister Anthony Albanese secure his position. But now, things are looking a bit shaky for Labor in Victoria.
The latest numbers show that support is pretty much split down the middle at 50-50 between Labor and the Coalition. Labor’s primary vote has dropped to 30%, while the Coalition has climbed from 36% to 39% over the last few polls.
People aren’t too happy with the state Labor government, which isn’t helping their cause. Albanese’s approval rating in Victoria has also taken a hit, dropping to 41% from 46% earlier this year.
Interestingly, Labor seems to be picking up some support in Western Australia, but both major parties are losing ground in Queensland, another key state.
With the Liberal National Party recently regaining power at the state level, the stakes are high. Many voters aged 35-49, who are feeling the pinch from rising interest rates and living costs, are also wavering in their support for Labor.
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton is keen to make the economy a central issue in the election. He pointed out in his Christmas message that many Australians are struggling with rising costs.
This Newspoll analysis is based on surveys conducted between October and December, with over 3,700 voters across Australia sharing their thoughts. It’s definitely going to be an interesting election season!
