Rawtenstall: So, the council has given the green light for a temporary spot for market traders while they spruce up the market hall. It’s all set to kick off in March and will last about a year.

Traders will be set up in kiosks at the new Town Square, right by the bus station. They’re planning to keep things lively with events and promotions to help boost the local economy.

It’s pretty cool that the market is known for its independent food stalls and fun events like ‘Foodie Fridays’. The revamp is getting some funding from the government, which is a nice bonus.

They’re bringing in some kiosks from Ashton Market in Greater Manchester, which is a smart move. The council has set aside £100,000 for this, covering everything from dismantling to transport.

They’re also designing special food stalls with all the necessary features like fume extraction and refrigeration. The whole temporary setup has a budget of £500,000, which should help keep things running smoothly.

At a recent council meeting, Coun Chris Harris talked about how these temporary stalls will keep traders safe and ensure they can keep selling while the market hall is being worked on.

He mentioned that they’ve been chatting with traders to make sure everyone’s on the same page. There’s still some work to do, especially with appointing a new management team since the current one is wrapping up soon.

Last autumn, there was some drama about moving food stalls inside the market hall and possibly adding a central bar, which some stallholders weren’t too keen on. It’s good to see the council is trying to keep everyone happy.

They’re also planning to promote the market with events and marketing to draw in more visitors. Plus, traders will get a month of free rent when the temporary market opens, which is a nice touch.

Coun Alyson Barnes, the council leader, emphasized how important it is to support the nearly 50 businesses at the market. It sounds like traders are generally on board with the plans, which is a relief.

Interestingly, while some locals were at the meeting, they didn’t have questions about the market but were more curious about other issues like roadworks in the area.

So, it looks like Rawtenstall is gearing up for some exciting changes, and it’ll be interesting to see how it all unfolds!
