Catford: So, there was this wild incident on Verdant Lane. A woman named Venisha Charlemagne, 38, was driving a stolen Tesla. This happened on September 30, and she crashed into several cars before smashing into a house. It caused quite a bit of damage.
When they tested her, she blew a breathalyser reading of 77 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres. That’s more than double the legal limit, which is 35 micrograms. Yikes!
Charlemagne, who lives on Sunderland Road in Forest Hill, pleaded guilty to drink driving, taking a vehicle without consent, and dangerous driving at a court hearing on October 2. She was supposed to be sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court on January 10.
But here’s the kicker: she didn’t show up for court and couldn’t be found at home. The judge, David Miller, wasn’t shocked. He mentioned her erratic history and figured she might be hiding out somewhere, possibly drunk.
So, he issued a warrant for her arrest without bail. That means when they find her, she’s going straight to custody.
Residents on Verdant Lane are pretty fed up. They say Charlemagne’s crash is just one of many bad driving incidents in the area. Just days before, a BMW lost control and crashed into a fireplace shop, and a Mercedes hit a bollard after trying to cut through traffic.
Gary Nolan, who’s lived there for three years, said it’s only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt, especially with all the reckless driving. Anna Rieser, another local, mentioned that she often sees kids nearly getting hit while trying to cross the road, which doesn’t have safe crossing points.
