JD Vance will step down from his Senate role as he prepares to be sworn in as Vice President alongside Donald Trump

He let Ohio Governor Mike DeWine know about his plans in a letter. Vance expressed his gratitude to the people of Ohio for letting him represent them in the Senate for the past two years.
He mentioned that he always aimed to remember his roots and promised to keep that in mind every day. Vance also talked about how voters want to put America first and is eager to work with Trump on that agenda.
Vance, who wrote “Hillbilly Elegy,” became a notable figure in Ohio politics when Rob Portman announced his retirement. He won a crowded GOP primary thanks to Trump’s endorsement, even against some well-known candidates.
At just 40, he’s set to be the third-youngest vice president ever. DeWine will now pick someone to fill Vance’s seat until a special election in 2026.
Jon Husted, DeWine’s lieutenant governor, is a top candidate but hasn’t made a decision yet. Other names in the mix include former Ohio GOP chair Jane Timken and state Rep. Jay Edwards.
DeWine and Husted recently met with Trump, but no commitments were made. DeWine hinted that an announcement about Vance’s replacement would come soon, likely next week.
When asked about Husted’s thoughts on the appointment, DeWine kept it vague, saying he wouldn’t share details.
