Sydney, New South Wales, Cocaine, Overdose, New Year’s Eve

Sydney: Just before the big New Year’s Eve bash, health officials in New South Wales are sounding the alarm. They’ve reported a death linked to fake cocaine.

In the last week, three people ended up in the hospital after using what they thought was cocaine. Turns out, it was something much more dangerous.

The white powder actually contained bromazolam, a sedative, and 2C-B, a hallucinogenic. Not what anyone wants to mess with, right?

Sadly, one person has died, and two others are in serious condition. The health department is urging everyone to be cautious.

Professor Andrew Dawson from the NSW Poisons Information Centre is advising anyone who feels off to get help right away. He said, “Stay with friends and don’t go home alone.”

Symptoms to watch for include trouble speaking, slowed breathing, and even skin turning blue or grey. Those are serious signs!

Even though naloxone won’t help with these specific drugs, it’s still safe to use if you think someone has overdosed.

And remember, if you or someone you know is in danger, don’t hesitate to call Triple Zero (000). Stay safe out there!
