Peterborough: A fundraising effort is underway for Peterborough Cathedral. Rising costs are putting its future at risk. They need to raise £300,000 by March 2025 to avoid cutting back on opening hours.
This cathedral is more than just a building; it’s a living piece of history. It’s the heart of Peterborough, drawing in thousands of visitors each year for worship, sightseeing, and various events.
But now, they’re facing a tough situation. If they can’t gather the funds, they might have to limit their hours and stop being open every day. That would be a big loss for the community.
The campaign is called ‘Cathedral in Crisis’. The Dean, Chris Dalliston, shared in a video how important this place is to the community. It’s been around for over 900 years, offering beauty and a space for worship.
He emphasized how they welcome students and families for learning and exploration. It’s a hub for cultural events and activities, making it a vital part of the community and the Diocese of Peterborough.
Despite their efforts to keep the cathedral warm and welcoming, they’re still struggling financially. They really need support from everyone.
Chris mentioned the financial challenges many are facing today. He urged people to back their campaign so the cathedral can continue to be a place for future generations to enjoy.
If you want to help, you can donate to the Chapter of Peterborough Cathedral. Donations can be made online, in person, or by sending a cheque.
