Update on Canterbury Road Closure as Water Main Repairs Progress
Canterbury’s road closure continues as water main repairs affect local traffic

Canterbury: There’s been an update on that pesky road closure in Canterbury. A water main burst has caused quite a bit of disruption, especially for folks in the St Martin’s area. This all kicked off last Saturday, and it’s been a bit of a hassle for residents trying to get their water supply sorted.
So, while the crews are busy figuring out what went wrong, they’ve had to close off a section of the A257 St Martin’s Hill. You know, right outside the Chaucer House care home? Well, good news is that South East Water announced yesterday that everyone in the affected CT1 area has their water back on.
But here’s the catch: the road closure and those annoying traffic lights are still hanging around. They’ve got a permit from Kent County Council to keep working until midnight on Friday. No word yet on whether they’ll need more time, but they’re hustling to get it done safely.
Adam Newbury, the distribution manager over at South East Water, apologized for the hassle. He mentioned that they’re doing this for everyone’s safety while they fix the burst. He gets that road closures can be a pain, especially with other utilities nearby making things trickier.
He reassured everyone that they’re working as fast as they can to wrap things up. Meanwhile, KCC Highways is advising drivers to plan for delays and give themselves a little extra time on the road. So, if you’re heading that way, just keep that in mind!
