Unsettled, Rainy Weather Continues in Storm-Battered B.C.
B.C. faces more heavy rain and wind after a weekend of severe storms

Vancouver: Over the weekend, a quarter of a million B.C. Hydro customers lost power due to fierce winds and heavy rain. Sadly, a landslide on Highway 99 took one life, and another person in Surrey was killed by a falling tree.
Now, another wave of heavy rain is set to hit starting Tuesday and lasting into Wednesday. The winds won’t be as strong this time, but they’ll still be gusty.
Tuesday will kick off dry for the Lower Mainland, but Vancouver Island will see rain first. By the afternoon, the rain will get heavy on the west side of the island, and the mainland will start to feel it later in the day.
We could see rainfall rates hit 5-10 mm/h, which might cause localized flooding and small landslides, especially in areas still recovering from the last storm.
Wind gusts will be milder this time, ranging from 40-60 km/h on Vancouver Island’s west coast and lighter at 20-40 km/h in the Lower Mainland.
The rain will continue into Wednesday morning before turning into alpine snow as the system moves through the colder mountain air.
Unfortunately, it looks like there won’t be much of a break, as another system is expected to roll in by the end of the week, with more potential storms on the horizon for the holidays.
