Boort: It’s a tough time for the community after a three-year-old boy tragically lost his life in a caravan fire. People are just in shock.
Emergency services rushed to Lake View Street around 5:50 PM on Thursday when they got reports of the fire. Sadly, after putting out the flames, they found the little boy inside.
Police are looking into what happened. They confirmed the child was from the Greater Bendigo area, which is about an hour’s drive away.
Detectives from the Arson and Explosives Squad are on the case, but there are no updates yet. A police spokeswoman mentioned that they understand how hard this is for everyone involved.
Boort District Health’s CEO, Donna Doyle, urged locals to reach out for help if they need it. The hospital has mental health resources available for those struggling with this heartbreaking news.
She described the situation as “an unimaginable tragedy,” saying the family is devastated and leaning on each other for support. They’re asking for privacy as they cope with everything that’s happened.
Police are also looking for anyone who might have information about the fire. Boort is a small town, with around 900 residents, but it gets busy with holidaymakers in the summer.
In a related note, authorities are also investigating another tragic incident involving a boy found dead in a river near Cobbannah.
