Edinburgh: So, the latest numbers are in, and it looks like unemployment in Scotland has dropped a bit. The rate is now at 3.8%, which is a nice little improvement.

According to the Office for National Statistics, this is a 0.2% decrease from the last quarter. Not too shabby, right? It’s also lower than the overall UK rate of 4.4%.

They found that around 105,000 folks aged 16 and over were out of work during that time. But on the bright side, the employment rate for those aged 16 to 64 is up to 74.1%—a 1% increase from before.

In total, about 2.6 million people in Scotland were employed during that period. The Scottish Government mentioned that there were 2.45 million payrolled employees in December 2024, which is a slight drop from the previous month.

Kate Forbes, the Deputy First Minister, said these numbers show that the job market is holding strong, even with the tough economic climate. She’s optimistic about the payrolled employment staying near record levels.

She also hinted that the First Minister will share plans for the economy soon, focusing on better ties with the EU and a migration policy that suits Scotland’s needs.

Plus, the Scottish Government is all about getting more people into jobs, which is why they’ve set aside £90 million for employability services in their draft Budget.
