Villagers in UK’s ‘Pothole Land’ Create Warning Signs for Drivers
Residents in Ceiriog Valley are taking matters into their own hands to warn drivers about dangerous potholes

Ceiriog Valley: Residents are really fed up with the state of the roads. They’ve even put up their own warning signs to alert drivers about the potholes. It’s gotten that bad!
These potholes are no joke. Some are reportedly up to ten inches deep! Locals are hoping that their theme park-style entrance will grab attention and make people more cautious.
Drivers are feeling the pinch too, with many facing hefty repair bills. One local councillor, Trevor Bates, shared that he’s had to deal with multiple car issues because of these “elephant traps.”
He mentioned spending £600 on repairs in just a few months. It’s frustrating when the council seems to prioritize off-road tracks over fixing local roads.
Residents are calling the new signs a “brilliant” way to highlight their struggles. One woman pointed out that they pay high road and council taxes but feel completely forgotten.
There’s even a campaign called National Pothole Day pushing for better road maintenance. They want councils to focus on permanent fixes instead of just patching things up.
While the government plans to spend £1.6 billion on road maintenance, it’s still a drop in the bucket compared to the £16.3 billion needed to fix everything.
Local leaders are urging the government to rethink their funding approach. They believe that more stable funding would help councils plan better and invest in long-term solutions.
In the end, everyone just wants safer roads. A spokesperson from the Department for Transport assured that the government is committed to delivering better roads for everyone.
