Aberdeen: The UK’s longest railway journey from Aberdeen to Penzance is ending. CrossCountry plans to cut the service starting in May.

This route is famous for its 35 stops and stunning views. It became a favorite among train enthusiasts.

The change comes with a timetable update. Trains from Aberdeen will only reach Plymouth now.

This journey took over 13 hours and covered 785 miles. It left Aberdeen at 8:20 AM and arrived in Penzance at 9:31 PM.

The new route to Plymouth will take about 11 hours and 30 minutes. The Caledonian Sleeper will then hold the title for the longest direct service.

Edinburgh to Penzance will be the next longest trip, taking 10 hours and 40 minutes. Glasgow to Plymouth will take 10 hours.

CrossCountry operates these services to the southwest of England. The Daily Mail reports that the May 2025 timetable may still change.

Rail fans are discussing the service removal on social media. The last day for the Aberdeen to Penzance route is May 16.

CrossCountry hasn’t confirmed these changes yet. The service was previously suspended for two years during the pandemic.

The first direct train from Penzance to Aberdeen ran on October 3, 1921. It took an incredible 22-and-a-half hours to complete.
