London: The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is warning dog owners to steer clear of specific dog treats from China. This comes after the European Union raised alarms about potential links to serious behavioral issues in dogs, including something called ‘werewolf syndrome’.

Symptoms can be pretty alarming, ranging from panic attacks and aggression to seizures and even death. Thankfully, there haven’t been any confirmed cases in the UK yet, and the affected treats don’t seem to be widely available here.

Tina Potter, who heads up incidents at the FSA, mentioned that while no unsafe products have been found in the UK, some folks might have bought these treats online from international sellers. So, just to be safe, they’re advising dog owners to avoid these chews for now. Good news is, there’s no evidence that these treats pose any risk to humans.

If you’ve given your dog any of these treats, it’s best to stop immediately. If your pup seems unwell after eating them, make sure to get in touch with your vet and let them know what your dog has been munching on.

Vets are being asked to keep an eye out for any symptoms in dogs that come in, especially if they might be linked to these chews, which can last a long time on the shelf. So, if you notice anything off with your furry friend, don’t hesitate to reach out for help.

Some of the treats that are causing concern include various Barkoo products and Chrisco items, all of which have specific codes and packaging details. If you see any of these in your home, it’s a good idea to check them out and make sure they’re not on the list.
