Barcelona: So, here’s the scoop. Starting in 2025, if you’re riding an e-scooter in Barcelona, you could get hit with a fine of up to £415. Yep, you heard that right! The city is cracking down on folks who ride on the pavements, trying to tackle some of the chaos that’s come with the rise of e-scooter users.
From February 1, they’re also going to fine anyone caught riding without a helmet. And get this, they’re capping e-scooter speeds at 25km/h. If you go over that, your scooter might as well be a motorcycle, and you’ll need a license.
Adrià Gomila, the guy in charge of mobility in the city, says these rules are all about changing how people behave and making things safer for everyone. It’s a big deal, especially with all the complaints about reckless riding and dodgy parking.
And it’s not just Barcelona. Madrid is also getting tough on e-scooters. They’re banning rentals through apps because the companies just couldn’t keep things under control. The mayor is pretty fed up and has decided to revoke licenses for those companies.
