Blackpool: An empty building in Blackpool is getting a makeover. It will become a luxury Hotel Indigo. This is part of a £26 million project.

The building, once a post office, has been empty since 2007. It’s a Grade II-listed site, which means it’s historically important.

Blackpool Council approved an £8 million grant to see if the building can be turned into a hotel. This funding will help explore the project’s potential.

Councillor Mark Smith from the council said this plan will create jobs. He believes it’s important to keep the building alive and useful for the community.

He mentioned that the building is in a key spot in town and holds memories for many locals. The goal is to find a good use for it.

Smith is determined to make this project happen. If it works out, it will bring new jobs to Blackpool while preserving a piece of its heritage.

There are over 150 Hotel Indigo locations worldwide. The £8 million grant will be managed by Ashall Hospitality, who will assess the building’s viability.

The funding will be released in two phases, according to the council. This project also received support from the Government’s Capital Regeneration Fund.

In 2022, Blackpool welcomed a record 20 million visitors, showing its popularity as a tourist destination.
