Colchester: A five-year-old boy named Freddie Farrow died after a mirror fell on him. This tragic incident happened in a Fenwick department store.

According to police, the mirror was 8ft 6ins tall and weighed between 132 and 176 pounds. It fell while Freddie was with his mother in the lingerie section.

Freddie touched the mirror, looking at his reflection. It moved forward and struck him. He was taken to Colchester Hospital and later to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, where he passed away on August 2, 2021.

Detective Chief Inspector Michael Pannell reported that the mirror was likely unstable. He noted that it was leaning against the wall and fell due to a weak bracket.

The incident was captured on CCTV, but the coroner found the footage too distressing to show in court. The impact caused severe head injuries to Freddie.

Freddie’s mother, Natasha Ingham, shared a heartfelt tribute, saying he was always smiling. His father, Andrew Farrow, expressed that part of their world feels missing.

The inquest is ongoing and expected to last several days.
