Mumbai: Uddhav and Aaditya Thackeray recently checked out the ongoing work for the Balasaheb Thackeray National Memorial. It’s being built at the Mumbai Mayor’s official residence in Dadar, and they were joined by former Minister Subhash Desai.
After their inspection, they held a press conference and announced that the memorial is set to be ready by January 2026. Uddhav mentioned that the first phase is done, and they’ll kick off the second phase soon. He emphasized that the memorial respects the heritage of the Mayor’s bungalow and addresses environmental concerns since it’s near the Arabian Sea.
Uddhav also made it clear that the party hasn’t strayed from Balasaheb Thackeray’s ideology. He said, “Those who believe in Balasaheb’s ideology can visit the memorial. But those who have abandoned his principles cannot take any credit for it.”
In this first phase, they’re upgrading the old Mayor’s bungalow to create a museum. The memorial will be eco-friendly and energy-efficient, featuring an administration building, an entrance block, and a heritage preservation center, among other things. They’re using cutting-edge construction tech to ensure it’s green and respects the heritage while introducing new architectural elements.
Most of the building will be underground, housing a museum, archives, an auditorium, and facilities for rainwater harvesting and sewage treatment.
The second phase will focus on tech elements like digital mapping, storytelling, and virtual reality to enhance the visitor experience.
