Whistler, B.C., U.S. Capitol Riot, Political Asylum, Antony Vo

Whistler: So, there’s this American guy named Antony Vo who got himself into a bit of trouble. He was part of that wild Capitol riot back in January 2021. Well, he was just arrested in Whistler, B.C., where he was trying to enjoy some snowboarding.

Apparently, he thought he could escape his past by seeking political asylum in Canada. The Canada Border Services Agency caught wind of him and swooped in to make the arrest. They called him a “fugitive from U.S. justice.” Yikes!

Vo was actually posting on social media about how happy he was that Canada accepted his asylum claim. He even shared a document asking him to come back for an interview. His lawyer said it looked legit, which is a bit surprising given the circumstances.

But here’s the kicker: Canada doesn’t have any record of him entering the country. They’re pretty strict about removing anyone who isn’t allowed to stay. Vo, who’s 32, was supposed to report to prison in the U.S. after being convicted of disorderly conduct and other charges, but he decided to head to Canada instead.

In a video, he was seen grinning and snowboarding, saying he hoped to be back home for the Lunar New Year if he gets a pardon from President Trump. It’s a wild story, and it just goes to show how complicated things can get when you mix politics and personal choices.
