Walpole: It’s such a sad situation. Two people lost their lives at Conspicuous Cliff beach, which is known for its tricky waters. They were caught in a rip current, and it all happened on Saturday.

There were three of them enjoying the beach when things went wrong. A passerby noticed they were in trouble and called for help around 2:40 PM. By the time the police got there, some good folks had already pulled them out of the water.

Unfortunately, despite the officers trying to revive them, a 40-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man couldn’t be saved. The third person, also in his 40s, was resuscitated and taken to the hospital.

It’s a rough stretch of ocean out there, and this beach is particularly dangerous. The police mentioned that all three were from the Perth area, just visiting for the day.

Now, they’ll be preparing a report for the coroner. It’s heartbreaking to think about, especially since drownings have been on the rise this year. Just in the first few weeks of summer, there were 14 deaths, which is more than last year.

Statistics show that most drowning victims are men, and many aren’t even from Australia. It’s a stark reminder to be extra careful at the beach, especially in those tricky currents.
