Missoula: On January 4, a devastating crash occurred that took the lives of two people, including a 19-year-old from Columbia Falls. They were in a vehicle that got hit by a semi-trailer that lost control on U.S. 93.
The accident happened around 3:56 p.m. on some really icy and slushy roads. According to the Montana Highway Patrol, it was a four-vehicle pile-up.
The semi, coming from South Dakota, was heading south when it jackknifed and crossed into oncoming traffic, hitting a GMC Sierra. Sadly, both the driver and a female passenger in the GMC died at the scene. We don’t have the passenger’s details yet, but neither of them was wearing a seat belt.
There was also a Ronan man driving another truck who crashed into the semi’s trailer as it slid down the road. That impact caused the trailer to spin and lose its load of plyboard.
Another driver from Ronan in a Chrysler Town and Country also collided with the trailer. Luckily, both of those drivers were buckled up and didn’t get hurt.
Authorities suspect that speed might have played a role in this tragic incident.
