Benfleet: A terrible house fire has left two people without a home and their two cherished dogs gone. Firefighters from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene after someone spotted smoke pouring from a window.

When they got there, they found a big fire on the ground floor. The whole house was filled with smoke, and it was even starting to creep into the neighboring house.

The firefighters jumped into action, quickly getting the fire under control and clearing the smoke from both homes to stop any more damage. Station Manager Russ Freeman shared how heartbreaking this situation is, with two people now displaced and their beloved pets lost.

He mentioned that it’s crucial to share these incidents to raise awareness and offer safety tips to help prevent similar tragedies. He emphasized the importance of having working smoke alarms on every level of your home. They can alert you to a fire before it gets out of hand.

Also, keeping internal doors closed when you leave a room can really slow down the spread of smoke and fire, giving you more time to react. And don’t forget to turn off electrical appliances completely after using them. Leaving them on standby can be risky, which might have contributed to this fire.

Sadly, the house has suffered significant damage from the flames.
