Dhaka: So, it looks like Tulip Siddiq is in hot water again. Investigators in Bangladesh are looking into her for a second time over some land her family supposedly got illegally from her aunt’s government.
The anti-corruption commission thinks Tulip, who’s also a minister in the UK, used her position as an MP to snag some land for her mom and a couple of plots for her siblings. This isn’t the first time she’s been named in a corruption case, either. There’s also a big £4 billion embezzlement investigation tied to her aunt, Sheikh Hasina, who used to be the prime minister.
Now, Tulip is feeling the heat because of her connections to her aunt and some properties in London that are linked to Hasina’s allies. The commission is planning to file a case against her for getting land in Dhaka’s diplomatic zone, which is a pretty big deal.
They say she used her influence to get a plot of land that’s about 7,200 square feet from a project called the Purbachal New Town Project. The commission’s deputy director even stated that she pressured officials to make this happen.
It’s a messy situation, especially since her aunt was in power for 15 years and had a reputation for cracking down on opponents. Now, with Hasina out of the picture, the commission is digging into these land deals, and Tulip is right in the middle of it.
They’re saying that Tulip and her family shouldn’t have been able to get these plots because her mom already owned a house in Dhaka. But it seems like they managed to get around the rules somehow.
As the investigation unfolds, Tulip is trying to defend herself, claiming she’s done nothing wrong. She’s even reached out to an independent adviser to look into her situation. But with all these allegations swirling around, it’s hard to see how she can keep her position without more scrutiny.
