Columbus: So, Trump is making some big promises about the death penalty. He said he’ll have the Justice Department go all out to pursue it, especially after Biden just commuted a bunch of death sentences. This all went down right after Biden decided to lighten the load for 37 federal inmates on death row.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump mentioned that once he’s in office next month, he’ll make sure the Justice Department takes a strong stand against violent criminals. He’s talking about protecting families and kids from what he calls “monsters.”

He’s really pushing the idea of law and order, saying, “We will be a Nation of Law and Order again!” But here’s the catch: Trump can’t just undo Biden’s commutations. Three death sentences still stand, including those for some pretty notorious cases like the Tree of Life synagogue shooting and the Boston Marathon bombing.

People are split on this. Some are happy about Biden’s decision to commute those sentences, while others are really upset. For instance, Donnie Oliverio, whose partner was killed by a prisoner whose sentence was commuted, said that executing his killer wouldn’t have brought him peace.

On the flip side, Marissa Gibson, the widow of a police officer killed by a commuted prisoner, called Biden’s move distressing and a real slap in the face to the justice system.

Then there’s Rev. Sharon Risher, who lost family in the Mother Emanuel AME church shooting. She thinks Biden’s decision is unfair and wants him to finish what he started by commuting the remaining sentences.

Biden, who’s not a fan of the death penalty, said he didn’t want the new administration to start up executions again, which is something Trump promised during his campaign. Remember, Trump oversaw 13 federal executions during his first term.

So, Biden’s decision to commute those sentences really fired up Trump, who quickly took to social media to express his outrage. He said it makes no sense and that it’s devastating for the families involved.
