Washington: So, it turns out Donald Trump hasn’t been cleared of any wrongdoing. Special counsel Jack Smith made it pretty clear in his final report. He said Trump tried to undermine the 2020 election and hold onto power after losing to Joe Biden.

Smith laid out a bunch of evidence that he believes would have led to Trump being convicted if the case had gone to trial. But here’s the kicker: Trump is off the hook right now because he won the White House back in 2024. That’s why the Justice Department decided to drop the historic prosecution.

In his report, Smith pointed out that the Constitution doesn’t allow for a sitting president to be indicted or prosecuted, no matter how serious the charges are. He really stands by the strength of the evidence they had, which he detailed in a hefty 137-page report sent to Congress and released to the public.

Smith also mentioned that the evidence was strong enough to secure a conviction. By the way, he just resigned from his position last week, which adds a bit of drama to the whole situation.

Right now, the Justice Department is holding back the second part of Smith’s report due to a court order. This part dives into the classified documents found at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home and whether he tried to obstruct the investigation into how they ended up there.
