Ossett: A local man named Karl Clough has been hailed a hero for his incredible efforts during a heavy snowstorm. He used his ex-military Land Rover to help hospital staff get to work.

Karl drove through West Yorkshire, picking up workers like Jenny Wilkinson, a ward sister at Dewsbury and District Hospital. He even towed an emergency ambulance that got stuck in the snow.

Jenny shared her experience, saying, “He came for me in Dalton, then we went to Brighouse to collect my colleague. On the way, we helped the ambulance.”

After his heroic actions, Jenny posted a photo of Karl and his Land Rover online, calling him a “true hero” for going above and beyond to help others.

Karl, 58, a former Territorial Army volunteer, downplayed his actions. He said, “I am not a hero – the heroes are the hospital staff.” He just wanted to help out when he saw the snow causing trouble.

He mentioned he had experience driving in tough conditions from his time as an HGV driver in Scandinavia. “I’ve owned ex-military vehicles for years and always offer help when the weather gets bad,” he explained.

Karl joked that the snow wasn’t even that bad compared to what he’s seen in Scandinavia. He added, “I don’t want any payment for what I do. The NHS has always been there for me when I needed them.”

It’s heartwarming to see such kindness in our communities, especially during tough times like these.
