Ottawa: So, Justin Trudeau recently spoke out about how women’s rights are really under fire. He pointed to Kamala Harris losing the presidential race as a big example of this setback.

At an event for the Equal Voice Foundation, which aims to boost women’s representation in politics, Trudeau said there are some serious forces pushing back against women’s progress. He’s not happy about it.

He mentioned that it shouldn’t be this way. We should be moving forward, even if it’s tough sometimes. Trudeau, who proudly identifies as a feminist, promised to always support women’s rights.

He noted that just a few weeks ago, the U.S. had a chance to elect its first female president but chose not to. He feels that women’s rights are being attacked both openly and subtly everywhere.

His comments came just before he was set to meet with provincial and territorial leaders to talk about Canada’s strategy with the U.S., especially with the threat of a big tariff hike from Donald Trump looming.

Interestingly, Trump had just poked fun at Trudeau on social media, calling him the “Governor … of the Great State of Canada.” This was a jab related to a joke Trump made during a dinner with Trudeau a couple of weeks back.

At the same event, Conservative MP Melissa Lantsman spoke about the need for more women in politics, but she pointed out that the country seems pretty divided on this issue.

She mentioned that while everyone in the room wanted more women in office, there’s a lack of diversity in thought, which is holding things back.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh also chimed in, saying we need to change the system to stop the same old patterns of “older white men failing upwards.”

He stressed that without real change, we’ll just keep benefiting the same people in power.

Green Party Leader Elizabeth May praised Trudeau for being the first Canadian prime minister to create a gender-balanced cabinet. She encouraged female MPs to unite across party lines.

May emphasized the importance of supporting each other instead of tearing each other down. It’s all about standing together in solidarity.
