Trimdon: Folks on Station Road West are really scared right now. They’re dealing with a wave of vandalism and anti-social behavior that just won’t quit.
Windows are getting smashed, and some people have even been attacked with spades. It’s gotten so bad that one house is boarded up, with trash all around it.
One resident, who didn’t want to be named, told The Northern Echo that they’ve been begging for help for three years. She’s lived there for decades and remembers when it was a peaceful place.
“It was so lovely when I first moved here – so quiet,” she said. “But since 2022, it’s just gone downhill. It feels like no one is doing anything to help us.”
She’s worried about the safety of her home and the others nearby. “If that house catches fire, we’re all in trouble. We’ve thought about moving, but selling is tough since many are private homes.”
Police have confirmed they’re looking into multiple reports of trouble at that specific house. Sergeant Terry Hill from the Peterlee Neighbourhood Team said they’re on it.
“We’re investigating several reports of anti-social behavior and criminal damage,” he said. “We’ve got some suspects and have already made a few arrests.”
He encouraged anyone with information to come forward. “We want to keep the community updated as we make progress.”
Local MP Alan Strickland is also aware of the situation and called the house’s condition “unacceptable.” He’s pushing for action with the council and police.
“I’m working to get this sorted out as quickly as possible,” he added.
