Caerphilly: It’s a sad day for the community as we remember John Bevan, a former councillor who just passed away. He was a real champion for the people.
John grew up in Phillipstown and had a long political career, even serving as mayor twice. He was all about making life better for folks in Abertysswg and Rhymney.
Cllr Sean Morgan, the local authority leader, shared how much John meant to the community. He said John was a dedicated public servant who worked hard for everyone.
Everyone who knew him will miss his colorful personality. He was a true friend to many, and our hearts go out to his family during this tough time.
John studied at New Tredegar Technical College and worked in mining until the Deep Navigation Colliery closed in 1991. His commitment to public service was clear throughout his life.
Dawn Bowden, a Welsh Government minister, called him a good friend and praised his support for her work. She said he loved his family and community deeply.
Cllr Carl Cuss also expressed his condolences, noting he would miss John’s straightforward approach to community issues. John really cared about the people he represented.
Gerald Jones, the MP for Merthyr Tydfil, highlighted John’s nearly 30 years of service. He was a strong advocate for his community and volunteered with many local groups.
