Prestonpans: A son is remembering his dad, Sam McEwan, who was a true gem. He always lent a hand to those in need and had a passion for music.
Sam, who was 75, sadly passed away after battling stomach cancer. His son Chris shared how much his dad loved music and golf, and how he was always there for others.
Growing up in Prestonpans with his brother Jamie and their mom Mary, Sam was a devoted father to five sons and a loving granddad to two grandkids.
Tragically, Jamie flew in from Australia to be with Sam but missed him by just three hours. Chris recalled how his dad played in bands all over Scotland, even while fighting cancer.
Sam was also the local window cleaner, known by many in the area. He had a knack for helping people, whether it was delivering parcels or just being there for a chat.
Chris fondly remembers their shared love for cars, sports, and music. Sam played at Sneaky Pete’s for over 30 years and even jammed with his son Cameron.
He was a passionate golfer too, serving as captain of the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club and being involved in its board for many years.
Sadly, Sam received a tough diagnosis after having trouble eating. Chris explained it was an aggressive cancer with a low survival rate, and it took a toll on him in just a year.
Despite the distance, Sam and Jamie stayed close, chatting weekly. The loss has hit the family hard, as Chris emphasized how much his dad meant to them.
Sam’s funeral is set for January 16 at Seafield Crematorium, and the family is asking for donations to Cancer Research UK in lieu of flowers.
