Stratford: Akif Mushtaq, 42, tragically passed away in the hospital after a dog attack. He was bitten on the neck and throat and succumbed to his injuries on December 5.

Akif was a co-owner of East Dulwich Dry Cleaners, a spot many locals loved. His sudden death has left everyone in shock.

Friends and customers remember him as a “lovely man.” They’ve even started a fundraiser to help support his family during this tough time.

Esme, a local who knew Akif for two decades, expressed her disbelief. She said it’s hard to imagine what his family is going through right now.

“He had young kids who will grow up without their dad. Akif was always smiling and joking about his wife’s cooking. He was just a joy to be around,” she shared.

Another local chimed in, saying Akif made every visit to the dry cleaners a pleasure. He always had a warm greeting and took the time to chat, making him a huge loss for the East Dulwich community.

The alleged owner of the dog, a pitbull named Prince, is Leanne McDonell, 33. She’s facing charges related to the attack.

The incident happened on Shirley Road early in the morning. McDonell appeared in court on January 6, pleading not guilty to the charges against her.

She’s also facing another charge from November 18 regarding the same dog, but she didn’t enter a plea for that one. A trial date has been set for June 2, expected to last three to four days.
