Manchester: It’s heartbreaking to hear about Patsy McKie, a remarkable woman who dedicated her life to fighting crime after losing her son. She started Mothers Against Violence in 1999 after her son Dorrie was tragically shot. He was just 20 and had so much ahead of him.
Even though no one was ever convicted for Dorrie’s murder, Patsy didn’t let that stop her. She worked tirelessly for 25 years, helping young people steer clear of gun and knife crime. Dorrie wasn’t involved in gangs; he was just a kid with dreams, ready to start college.
Patsy’s efforts didn’t go unnoticed. In 2019, she received a special recognition award at the Pride of Manchester awards. The audience gave her a standing ovation, and she shared such a beautiful message about love and community. It really struck a chord with everyone.
Sadly, she passed away at her home recently, and the news hit hard. Her charity announced her death, calling her a visionary leader and an inspiration. She truly made a difference in so many lives.
Local leaders, like Coun Bev Craig, expressed their sadness, highlighting how much Patsy meant to the community. She was a fierce advocate for a better Manchester and will be deeply missed.
Patsy’s legacy lives on through Mothers Against Violence, which continues to support those affected by violence. It’s incredible how one person’s passion can create such a lasting impact.
