Thirsk: It’s such a heartbreaking story. An off-duty police officer, Rosie Prior, was helping at a crash scene when she was hit by a lorry. She was just trying to do the right thing.
Rosie worked for North Yorkshire Police and was known for her dedication. She was at the A19 on Saturday morning, helping with a road accident when tragedy struck. Sadly, she and another man, Ryan Welford, lost their lives.
Ryan was also involved in the initial crash, and a teenage boy in his car is now in the hospital, but he’s stable. It’s just so sad for everyone involved.
The driver of the lorry, a 65-year-old man, was arrested but has been released while the investigation continues. Chief Constable Tim Forber spoke highly of Rosie, saying she truly cared about helping others.
He mentioned how she wasn’t even on duty but still jumped in to assist. It’s a real testament to her character. Her family described her as a loving person who will be missed dearly.
Local leaders, including the mayor, expressed their sorrow, saying Rosie’s commitment to serving the public was remarkable. Ryan’s family also shared their grief, highlighting what a wonderful father and husband he was.
The Police Federation extended their condolences to both families. The scene has been cleared, but North Yorkshire Police is asking anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward. It’s a tough time for the community.
