Farnham: Robin Radley, the former editor of the Herald, has died at 87. He was well-loved in the community.

After leaving the paper, he founded the Children’s Homes in Kerala State (Chiks) charity. This charity helps orphaned children in southwest India.

Wendy Craig, a former vice chairman at Tindle Newspapers, shared her memories. She said Robin had a kind heart and was involved in many local activities.

Robin was known for his compassion. His colleague Sue Cansfield remembered him as someone who always wanted to help others.

She recalled how he hired her as a personal assistant in the 1980s. This opportunity opened doors for her in journalism.

Robin had a talent for writing. He could create beautiful scripts and loved using an old typewriter, even when computers became common.

Carl Obert, the former sports editor at the Herald, praised Robin’s professionalism. He often filled in for Carl when he was on leave.

Robin had a strong background in sports and was great at creating catchy headlines and layouts for the newspaper.

Ken Gore, another colleague, thanked Robin for believing in him early in his career. Robin took a chance on him when he applied for a sub-editor job.

Ken eventually became chief sub-editor at the paper, crediting Robin for his success. He appreciated Robin’s support throughout his career.

Through Chiks, Robin became a well-known charity fundraiser in Farnham. He worked closely with local groups like the Farnham Lions and Rotary Club.

Lions member Keith Harris shared his experience visiting the children’s homes with Robin. This visit inspired him to raise funds for a medical center in Kerala.

They organized an event called the Indian Spectacular, which was a great success. Keith admired Robin’s dedication to helping others.

Robin was always ready to lend a hand, no matter the time. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
