Cardiff: Tony Barcoe, the heart and soul behind Dorothy’s chip shop, has sadly passed away at 70. He was a familiar face on Caroline Street, where his shop became a beloved spot for locals and visitors alike.
Back in 2007, Tony made headlines when he set a Guinness world record for the largest bag of chips. Can you believe it? They whipped up a whopping 392.5kg of chips! He joked that it was “easy” and said, “You should see what we do on a Saturday night.”
He left us on December 5, and his funeral is set for January 13 at Thornhill Crematorium. His family shared that he was a “loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, partner, and friend.”
Dorothy’s has been around since 1954, making it Cardiff’s oldest takeaway. It’s still a cherished part of the city, and there’s always a friendly rivalry with the nearby Tony’s chip shop.
