Basingstoke, UK, Patricia Olive, Mike Olive, Dementia, Funeral
Basingstoke: Patricia Olive, who moved to the town with her husband Mike in the 1970s, passed away on December 12, 2024.
Born on January 15, 1927, Patricia shared her birthday with Mike. They both went to Portsmouth Northern Grammar School but met through a mutual friend.
Mike always felt their marriage was meant to be. Besides sharing a birthday, they both had the last name Olive, and Patricia’s maiden name was the same as Mike’s mother’s maiden name.
They tied the knot on December 7, 1957, at St Saviours Church in Portsmouth, officiated by Rev. Alan Talbot, a former RAF navigator.
The couple had four kids in America, though sadly, two have passed away. They also had 28 grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, with another on the way.
Mike shared that Patricia was asked to lead a Scout pack at just 16, and he helped out after they met. They often attended church parades on H.M.S Vanguard in Portsmouth Harbour.
In 1963, they moved to the USA but returned to the UK in 1970 so their children could bond with their grandparents.
They settled in Basingstoke because of Patricia’s job as a social worker, where she managed Cyprus Lodge Children’s Home, which was later redeveloped into housing in 2014.
Patricia passed away in St Thomas Care Home after battling advanced dementia and pneumonia. She had been living there for over a year.
Her funeral is set for January 15 at Basingstoke Crematorium at 2pm, coinciding with what would have been her 88th birthday.
