Huntingdon: A local legend has passed away. Fred Smith, known for his cheerful personality, died at 83. He was a familiar face in town, often seen in his leather hat and white pick-up truck.

Fred worked various jobs throughout his life, including caretaker and builder. He even built a narrow boat in his backyard. His son, Ian, shared that Fred’s positive attitude touched everyone he met.

Fred greeted people with phrases like “alright my blue” and “alright my sweet.” He faced many challenges but always chose to help others instead of dwelling on his problems.

Ian recalled how Fred helped a friend find a safe place to live. Fred loved to socialize, joke, and keep busy with building jobs and small trades.

He was often compared to the character Del Boy from *Only Fools and Horses*. Fred had a knack for haggling and selling items, always with a smile.

People would wave and shout greetings when they saw him out and about. Ian expressed how much he learned from his father and how deeply he will be missed.

Fred’s funeral is set for February 21 at 2:30 PM at Huntingdon Crematorium. Everyone is welcome to attend.
